Title: OUTCOME OF ARTHROSCOPIC OSTEOCHONDRAL AUTOGRAFT (MOSAICPLASTY) IN OSTEOCHONDRAL DEFECTS OF THE KNEE
Background: The osteochondral defects of knee are difficult lesions to deal with. Cartilage defect of knee are either traumatic or non traumatic(osteochondritis dessicans). This study includedboth the categories which were treated with arthroscopic cartilage transfer from non weight bearing region of knee to the symptomatic lesion. The study included grade 3 and 4 lesions ( ICRS CLASSIFICATION) of 1 – 4 sqcms in size Of weight bearing regions of knee.
Materials and Methods: The study included 15 patients (Oct 2013 – Aug 2014) patients with defects ,treated with arthroscopic mosaicplaty and the outcome was assessed clinically by MODIFIED CINNATI SCORING SYSTEM at 6th , 12th , and 24th week. and radiologically assessed by an MRI at 24th week.
Results: According to study 13 patients had good to excellent outcome ,that is upto 87%. And 1 patient had donor site pain and 1 patient had loss of follow up.
Conclusion: This study concludes that arthroscopic osteochondral autograft is a valid, single staged procedure, with least complications in treating Patients with osteochondral defects of knee of above Criteria.
